Tippecanoe County to update land-use plan for Lafayette and Dayton growth areas

Tippecanoe County Commissioners on Monday approved Resolution 2025-04 to launch an update of the land-use plan for growth areas south and southeast of Lafayette and Dayton.

The resolution covers only unincorporated parts of Tippecanoe County; the city of Lafayette and the town of Dayton will not be formal parties to the update but may be invited to observe. Planning staff said the process will mirror a recent update in the Wabash–Tippecanoe townships and will solicit stakeholder recommendations and a steering committee to guide the work.

The county spokesman said planners expect the update to address both land-use and transportation needs in the area and to recommend “ground rule” policies for future growth. Commissioners discussed whether one steering committee should cover both townships or whether each township should have its own panel; planning staff said they prefer a single, combined committee if public interest and participation allow.

Commissioners moved and approved the resolution by voice vote. The board gave no specific timeline in the meeting packet; staff said stakeholders will be invited to participate and that an exhibit map in the packet shows the study area for unincorporated land only.

The action follows the county’s earlier work on growth areas around West Lafayette and the Battlegrounds, staff said. The resolution directs staff to assemble the steering committee and begin the outreach and technical work described in the packet.
