At a Lake County Board of Supervisors meeting on Oct. 12, residents and county staff described widespread illegal dumping in the Clear Lake area and urged expanded cleanups, free dump days and stronger enforcement to keep debris from washing into the lake.
The issue drew public comment from neighborhood volunteers, county public services staff and members of local ad hoc groups who said the dumping is extensive, recurring and concentrated in remote subdivisions and along rural roads such as Pyle Road and Main Street.
Resident Dave, who presented photographs and an interactive Google map, said the problem covers a large area. “All kinds of stuff, that's been dumped,” he said, noting that the Clear Lake subdivision contains roughly “6,000 lots” many of them small parcels. He told the board he maintains a map with about 70 sites he has documented and said many piles of household debris and abandoned vehicles are washing down toward the lake.
