The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted to sign a letter of support for the Redwood Region RISE Catalyst Fund application to establish a healthcare workforce development and simulation center adjacent to Sutter Lakeside Hospital.
Deputy County Administrative Officer Ben Rickelman described the proposal as a multi-part program including: (1) a student experiential center for middle and high school students to explore medical careers; (2) midlevel recruiting and training in partnership with local medical systems and education providers; and (3) community outreach offerings such as CPR and caregiver training. The center would be located in a vacant office building near Sutter Lakeside and would engage community colleges, the office of education, health systems and school districts.
Supervisors expressed support for the project as a pathway to local, stable health-care jobs. Supervisor Sabatier asked about community-college participation and whether Woodland Community College would be a partner; staff said discussions have occurred and further engagement is planned. Supervisor Rasmussen said he strongly supported the workforce and student-engagement elements of the proposal.
The board approved the letter of support and authorized the chair to sign.
