Lake County swears in new officials; Crandall elected chair, Rasmussen vice chair for 2025

The Lake County Board of Supervisors administered oaths of office to newly elected county officials Tuesday and elected its 2025 leadership.
At a public ceremony in the board chambers, Helen Owen (District 1), Brad Rasmussen (District 4), Jessica Pyszka (District 5) and Sheriff-Coroner Lucas Bingham took the oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California.” The board then moved to elect officers for the year.
Vice Chair EJ Crandall was nominated and confirmed as chair for 2025 by voice vote. Brad Rasmussen was nominated and confirmed as vice chair; the board discussed a board policy that recommends, but does not absolutely require, that a member serve the preceding calendar year before assuming chair duties if asked to substitute. County counsel advised that the policy language could restrict a vice chair from automatically assuming chair duties in some circumstances, and staff said the board’s policies will be reviewed in the spring.
The board also approved seating Crandall and Rasmussen as chair and vice chair, respectively, for the Lake County Board of Equalization and as chair and vice chair of the Lake County In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority Board of Directors for 2025.
There was no public opposition when the board called for comment on the nominations. Votes on the chair and vice chair positions were taken by voice; the motions carried.
Outgoing supervisors offered brief farewell remarks before the oath. The board recessed for a short break following the elections and photo opportunities.
