Lane County swears in sheriff, district attorney and two commissioners at State of the County

Four elected officials were ceremonially sworn into office at Lane County’s 2025 State of the County event in Harris Hall. Presiding Judge Jay McAlpin administered oaths for Clifton G. Harrold as sheriff, Christopher Perosa as district attorney, Pat Farr Sr. as county commissioner (Position 4) and Lori Trigger as county commissioner (Position 3). The officials then made brief remarks to the assembled audience.
Why it matters: The swearing-in formalizes continuity in key public-safety and county leadership roles and set the tone for the county’s priorities for the year, including public safety, intergovernmental partnership and community services.
Sheriff Clifton G. Harrold, after taking the oath, thanked county staff and family and described staffing and funding challenges in patrol operations. "We once were funded well with timber revenue, and we no longer are," Harrold said. "We have 30 30 fewer deputy sheriffs today than we had in 1979 to patrol unincorporated Lane County." He said he is proud of the office’s staff and thanked the community for its support of jail functions.
District Attorney Christopher Perosa, sworn in after Harrold, thanked mentors, family and the district attorney’s staff. "They are about 78 of the most dedicated public servants you'll ever meet," Perosa said, adding that the office will work to "execute the laws here in the state of Oregon" over the next four years.
Commissioner Pat Farr Sr., sworn next, and Commissioner Lori Trigger, who followed, each offered remarks of gratitude. Trigger used the event to pivot to the county’s State of the County program and to acknowledge staff, elected colleagues and community partners present at the event.
The ceremony included a pledge of allegiance led by Judge McAlpin and musical performances by Eric Richardson and Alex Huber. County Administrator Steve Mokryhski and department directors were also recognized during the program.
