Congressional bill to rename Modesto post office signed into law, county notified

Alfredo Miranda, representing Congressman Tom McClintock's office, told the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 7 that federal legislation to rename the United States Postal Service facility at 23100 Soban Avenue in Modesto as the Corporal Michael D. Anderson Jr. Post Office Building was signed into law on Jan. 2, 2025.
Miranda said the board adopted a supporting resolution in February 2023 and that, with the board's prior support, Congressman McClintock introduced the renaming measure in Congress. “After almost 2 years, the bill was signed into law by President Biden on January 2, 2025,” Miranda said. He added that the congressman's office does not yet have a timeline for an official renaming ceremony and will update the board when plans are developed.
No county action was required at the Jan. 7 meeting; the statement was provided as public information by the congressman's representative.
