Several residents used public comment at the LaSalle City Council meeting to press for changes or clarification on city services, spending and local ordinances.
Rhian Hicks thanked staff for correcting a yield sign near Recreational Park and asked why the incorrect sign was installed and went unnoticed. She proposed marking veterans with flags near the veterans home and asked how the city could prioritize veteran recognition.
Dina Hicks raised a long-outstanding sidewalk concern — a traffic cone left on the 8th Street sidewalk near Save A Lot — and asked when it would be removed. She also asked about an alleged restriction on selling eggs in town, noting she had found only FDA guidance that limits sales off one’s property and requested a copy of any local ordinance if it exists.
Another resident urged the council to provide more funds to the local food pantry after a case in which a resident seeking help was told to return at Thanksgiving. The resident also questioned a previously cited spending cap for holiday lights, saying she saw an ordinance number listed as $50,000 while the council had referred to $70,000; the transcript records the figure as disputed and not specified.
Speakers also questioned why certain city employees received overtime while working on holiday lighting or pump monitoring detail and asked the council to explain the staffing and pay arrangements. Councilors did not announce new policy changes during the recorded portion of the meeting.
