John Brody, City Attorney, said the office had not received public comment and that the proposal aims to remove an inconsistency between the city code and state statute. In response to a committee question about alignment with state law, Brody said the offense is already jailable under state law and the amendment is intended to make the city code consistent with state statute.
Doctor Aldridge moved to approve on third and final reading; Councilman White seconded. Committee members voiced “aye” and the recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final action.
