Commissioners confirm board appointments, revise meeting agenda to add early agenda-item public comments

Marshall County Commissioners on Jan. 6 approved a series of board and committee appointments, authorized a financial-consultant service agreement, and revised the county’s permanent meeting agenda to place public comment on agenda items at the start of meetings.
The commissioners approved the list of appointments read into the record by a commissioner, with one exception: the reappointment of Allison Shook to the Board of Health was held pending action by the mayor of the county’s largest municipality (the mayor will provide nominees to meet recent statutory changes governing health-board composition). The board approved reappointments and new appointments across a range of county bodies including library boards, plan commissions, the alcohol beverage board, the board of health (except the held seat), the drainage board, regional economic development posts, tourism commission seats, and other committees. The motion passed by voice vote.
Commissioners also approved engaging Senator Dalton Financial Consultants under an annual service agreement; county counsel reported the agreement had been reviewed and presented no issues.
On meeting procedure, the board voted to adopt a revised permanent agenda placing a slot for public comment on agenda items at the start of meetings, while retaining the traditional public-comment period at the end of meetings for any other topics. The motion passed unanimously.
The president announced an informational leadership training session for department heads sponsored by the county’s insurance carrier, scheduled for Jan. 22. The training will focus on labor and HR topics and will be open to invited neighboring local-government HR staff; commissioners said they will consider recording the session for later viewing but that it will not be livestreamed.
The appointments, agreement and agenda-change votes were recorded by voice; commissioners indicated unanimous support for the motions as presented.
