La Porte board approves payrolls, claims, job descriptions and cybersecurity grant letters; waterline item tabled

The board approved the Jan. 3 payroll for $555,794.63, the Jan. 20 payroll for $536,093.32 and a fourth‑quarter merit payroll payment of $1,926.88. It also approved sewage claims and other vendor claims; the sewage claims figure read into the record was $375,098.20. Several claims and pay cycles were presented by the Clerk Treasurer and approved by unanimous voice vote.
HR Director Andrea Smith described the updated job descriptions and the process used to craft them, including employee questionnaires, department head review and a final formatting pass by Smith and an outside consultant. “Upon your approval, each employee will read the job description, sign the job description along with the department head, and those will be placed in their employee files,” Smith said. The board approved the set presented at the meeting; water and wastewater descriptions were deferred for separate review.
IT director Roscoe Hoffman briefed the board on two letters of consent tied to the state’s State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP). Hoffman said the grant would fund the city’s “Know Before” phishing program and continue support for its CrowdStrike security operations. “What this does for us is it will fund our Know Before, which is the cybersecurity phishing program that we use. And then it'll also fund our CrowdStrike application that we use already,” Hoffman said. The board authorized signature via DocuSign for both state documents.
