Spokane City Council adopts new agenda-review format, approves Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 agendas

The Spokane City Council met in an agenda review session on Jan. 6, 2025, and approved the final agendas for its Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 meetings while adopting a new procedural model intended to give members and the public more time to review amendments.
City staff member Mister Wright told the council the change replaces briefing sessions with “agenda review sessions” to allow members to move, defer or withdraw items and to give the public “additional time to sit with amendments after they’ve been adopted.”
Wright said the change shifts an earlier submission deadline into the middle of the agenda-review timetable so amendments adopted in that session will be available for a full week for public review. Council members voted to approve the Jan. 6 agenda and, separately, the Jan. 13 agenda during the meeting; both were adopted after routine motions and voice votes.
Council president Wilkerson and members present confirmed the council’s full attendance for the review. Members and staff noted the transition will require patience from the public and from council members because holiday meeting cancellations in late December compressed the usual timeline for reviewing January items.
The council recessed at the end of the session and reminded residents of a January 6 community event hosted by the Haitian community at 5 p.m. in the Jim Chase Gallery.
