WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — City staff notified council on Jan. 6 that Lamar Advertising has requested the city consider allowing digitized billboards and electronic message boards. City code currently prohibits digitization of billboards, and staff asked council whether to schedule a future study session on the issue.
Mister Goff, a staff member, reported that Lamar representative Peter Wall had contacted councilors asking the city to revisit the code. Goff noted the city updated its sign code about a year earlier to clarify that billboards cannot be digitized.
Councilors agreed there should be a study-session discussion and gave consensus to schedule the item for further review. Staff said they will check code timing and any council rules about revisiting items within a one-year window and will bring background materials to the study session.
Ending: Staff will schedule a study-session item on digitized billboards, provide code background and options for council consideration.
