The City of Aberdeen City Council set the municipal election date of June 3, 2025 on Jan. 6 to fill vacancies for the Southwest and Southeast district city council seats.
City staff cited South Dakota Codified Law 9-13-1, which requires the municipality to designate an election date by Jan. 14. Jordan told the council the city had contacted the county auditor and school finance director to determine if other elections would be combined on the same day, but it remained unknown which other jurisdictions, if any, would combine their ballots with the city’s election.
Council members approved the June 3 date by voice vote. Staff said the council must decide whether to apply to combine or to proceed in coordination with other jurisdictions under statutory timelines; the city will follow up with any necessary filings and scheduling steps.
