School speakers describe new 'innovation knowledge center' with makerspace tools

Speaker 1, a staff member, introduced a new innovation knowledge center that replaced the facility previously used as a media center and said the project was developed over the course of a year with input from students, faculty, Career and Technical Education teachers, media specialists and community members.
"This is our brand new innovation knowledge center. It used to be a media center. It has been a whole year in the making with input from our students, our faculty, our CTE teachers, our media specialists, and our community members. So this was a project of of the heart with lots of love, and our students got to drive this project, so that's what's most important about it," Speaker 1 said.
The speakers described the center as a larger, more flexible workspace designed to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) activities and to make resources easier to find and use. "It was just looking for an opportunity to do what we do with Career and Technical Education, which is to allow and provide resources and opportunities for the kids to foster innovation and collaboration," Speaker 2, a staff member, said.
Speaker 3, a staff member, said the redesign increased usable work area and added a variety of table types to meet different user needs. "It seems more intuitive for people to, find what they're looking for. It also provides more working area than before. Because remember last time, there's a few tables and they're all come together, but now there's different types of tables to appeal to different people, so I think that's really nice," Speaker 3 said.
Speaker 1 listed the center's equipment and design features, saying, "It will have, a banner machine, so we'll be able to make our own banners. It'll have sewing machines. It'll have 3 d printers. It will have a laser cutter in it. It'll have all state of the art, makerspace activities, and every single piece of furniture in this media center in this innovation center is on wheels." Speaker 3 also encouraged use beyond checkout: "I mean, I also encourage people to not just, pick up a book and leave, but they can actually sit here and read the book they're borrowing. So that's really nice too."
The remarks at the meeting emphasized student leadership in the center's design and the facility's role in supporting hands-on learning through CTE-aligned resources. One brief closing remark from Speaker 2 was, "Go Falcons."
