Marshall school board swears in three new directors and elects officers by acclamation

The Marshall Public School District on an unspecific date in January swore in three newly elected board directors — Matt Coleman, Timothy Van Moore and Mary Swanson — and the board elected Matt Coleman chair, Sarah Runtie vice chair, Jeff Chapman clerk and Sarah Brink treasurer, each declared elected by acclamation.

The new directors recited the oath of office together: "I swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the state and I will discharge faithfully the duties of the office of school board member." The board then moved into officer nominations and appointments; each office drew a single nomination and was declared elected without a contested vote.

The board’s installation and officer selections set leadership for routine governance and committee assignments coming later in the meeting. The chair and vice chair positions will lead board meetings and preside over committee appointments; the clerk and treasurer roles were included in the acclamation declarations recorded for the meeting minutes.

Board members and staff observed the formalities at the start of the session, noting that several participants attended remotely and that roll-call voting would be used when necessary for recorded votes.
