Beloit issues proclamation honoring volunteers behind USS Beloit commissioning events

The Beloit City Council on Jan. 6 presented Proclamation 2025-1 recognizing volunteers who organized and supported events surrounding the commissioning of the USS Beloit (LCS 29) on Nov. 23, 2024.
The proclamation described the commissioning committee as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit effort organized by the Madison Council of the Navy League in partnership with the city and local organizations. It thanked a team of roughly 25 committee members and singled out committee chairs and community partners for their work putting together ceremonies, gift packages and related events. The city document noted the commissioning was attended by more than 3,000 people and praised volunteers for boosting civic pride.
On behalf of the commissioning committee, Drew Pennington thanked the council and called out several people and organizations by name, including committee chairs Celestina Ruffini (Visit Beloit), Sarah Locke (City of Beloit staff), Sean Sullivan (the Morris Group) and Mark Fingin (Vets Roll). Pennington said the ship is home at Naval Station Mayport in Florida and invited the public to follow updates at the ships website.
The proclamation was presented and accepted during the meeting; it is a ceremonial recognition and did not require a council vote recorded in the meeting minutes.
