Beloit council approves combining polling locations for Feb. 18 spring primary

The Beloit City Council on Jan. 6 adopted Resolution 2025003 to combine polling locations for the citys Feb. 18, 2025 spring primary, designating Kruger Golf Course as the west-side polling site and Central Christian as the east-side site.
City election staff told the council the move is based on historically low in-person turnout at some polling places and the desire to concentrate staff and training. The clerk said the last time the city used combined polling locations in February produced far lower in-person turnout than a full-election period in April; the clerk provided turnout figures comparing the two months.
Councilor Blakely moved approval of the resolution; Councilor Dentsch seconded. Council discussion included a councilor who said they had been opposed to consolidation in the past but supported the decision after reviewing turnout data and speaking with the city clerk and city manager. That councilor asked staff to continue to monitor turnout and consider returning to separate ward locations if data support that change.
Under the approved plan, the city will staff two consolidated polling sites for the Feb. 18 spring primary. No changes to mail-in or absentee voting procedures were discussed in the Jan. 6 presentation. The resolution was approved by the council during the meeting.
