Lisa N. Cupid sworn in for second term as Cobb County chair; launches 'All In' civic engagement drive

Lisa N. Cupid was sworn in for a second term as chair of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners during a public ceremony at the Cobb County Civic Center, where she also took a county loyalty oath and the oath for the Cobb Marietta Water Authority.

Cupid called for broader resident participation in county policy and unveiled a civic-engagement effort called “All In.” “We’re gonna be all in,” Chairwoman Lisa N. Cupid said, asking attendees to visit allincobb.com to sign up for policy teams and apply for boards and commissions.

The oath of office was administered by State Court Judge Ashley Palmer, who noted Cupid’s prior service as district 4 commissioner and her community involvement. “Since our first meeting and through today, Chairwoman Cupid has shown me so much support,” Judge Ashley Palmer said before administering the oath.

Attorney Doug Haney presented a separate oath tied to the Cobb Marietta Water Authority, which he said was created by state legislation in 1951 and designates the commission chair as a member of the authority. “In 1951, the water authority board was created by the state legislature,” Doug Haney said while administering that oath.

Family members and supporters spoke briefly. Nehemiah Cupid and Noah Cupid, identified as Chairwoman Cupid’s sons, offered congratulations; Nehemiah praised his mother’s work habits and late-night preparation for public duties. “I just wanna say congratulations,” Noah Cupid said. Craig Cupid, the chairwoman’s husband, described the demands of her schedule and said, “Cobb County, you're getting the deal.”

Speakers at the event included clergy who led prayers and musical tributes. Pastor Neru Mortgage of the Way Church of Marietta and Malcolm Lewis of Beacon of Light Church offered invocations; Michelle Marks Riley and Lisa Green performed songs. Conrad Maynard closed with a prayer that invoked protection and wisdom for Cupid’s term.

Cupid used her remarks to emphasize inclusion across Cobb’s geographic and demographic communities, saying some areas “continue to not flourish” and that county leadership should seek to close persistent disparities. “There have been areas of this county that continue to not flourish like we know Cobb should,” Chairwoman Cupid said, adding, “I will get us closer.”

She asked residents to join policy teams tied to the county’s strategic plan, which she said had input from more than 3,000 residents, and said she hopes to appoint new members to county boards by the end of January. Cupid also acknowledged her small executive staff—“my precious staff of 3”—and volunteers who worked on her campaign.

The ceremony included a public reading of the U.S. and Guyanese anthems, a poem delivered by Jenny Lee, and multiple pastor-led prayers. Marva Jacobs, identified as the honorary consul for Guyana in Georgia, and Victoria Green, who said she worked on Cupid’s campaign, offered remarks of congratulations.

No formal votes or legislative actions were taken at the event. The oaths administered were ceremonial and administrative steps tied to Cupid’s elected office and her ex officio role on the Cobb Marietta Water Authority.
