Dorchester County recognizes budget office with GFOA award and names new public information officer

County officials presented the National GFOA budget award and formally introduced Erin Palmarinke as the county’s new public information officer at the Jan. 6 meeting; budget officer Melanie Hay and budget analyst Kristi O’Connell (absent) were acknowledged for their work.
At its Jan. 6 meeting Dorchester County Council acknowledged that the county received a budget award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). County officials credited Melanie Hay, the county budget officer, and budget analyst Kristi O’Connell (who was not present) for preparing the budget recognized by the GFOA.
County staff noted the award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and cited the county’s record of receiving the honor over the past 19 years; Melanie Hay was specifically thanked for eight years of service as budget officer during the county’s recent award period.
County Administrator Mario Formosano also introduced Erin Palmarinke as Dorchester County’s new public information officer. Formosano said Palmarinke comes from Kiawah Island and has more than 10 years of local government communications experience, including prior work in Charles County, Maryland.
Councilors and staff presented remarks of appreciation to Melanie Hay and welcomed Palmarinke to the county communications role.
