Courthouse renovation enters interior trim phase; commissioners approve appointments to local boards

County project staff reported continued progress on the Pulaski County courthouse renovation and outlined immediate trim and carpentry needs while commissioners approved a slate of appointments to several county advisory bodies.
Nathan, the staff member who presented the project update, said there were no change orders requiring commissioner action that evening but described one request of just over $5,000 for carpentry work: door trim for a courtroom-turned-media room and medallions for ceiling-mounted light fixtures to avoid cutting access panels into primary public ceilings. "This is a request for just over $5,000 in carpentry work," Nathan said, and added the work would eliminate the need for access panels in primary public spaces.
Nathan reported a current contingency balance of $217,565.60, noting that the balance would be reduced if an outstanding sidewalk change order is approved and after December interest is posted. He also said scaffolding has been removed from the clock tower and that masonry, drywall and woodwork installation are progressing. John Allen, the project superintendent referenced by Nathan, told commissioners he remains optimistic the work could be complete by about July 4, though Nathan cautioned the project manager has not firmly committed to that date.
The board approved several appointments by voice vote. The slate included replacing Maurice Lamer on the Community Development Commission with Commissioner Dawn Street upon appointment; Commissioner Kneebel was named to the courthouse steering committee to replace Lamer; Maurice Lamer was assigned to fill a vacant Community Development Commission seat; Claude Lemire was reappointed (effective Feb. 1) as the Town of Winamac nominee to the Economic Development Commission; and Stan Bennett, Kyle Sopcak, John Frane and Tina Stacy were reappointed to one-year terms on the Redevelopment Commission. Ray Hebel and Kelsey Zellers were reappointed to terms on the Tourism Advisory Council.
Outcome: the carpentry request was described as within the project manager’s recommended scope and the appointments were approved by motion and voice vote.
