Supervisor of Assessments' office readies senior exemptions, schedules board review hearings in Springfield

Chad Jones, chief deputy in the Peoria County Supervisor of Assessments' office, told the Ways and Means Committee on Jan. 6, 2025 that the office is finalizing board reviews and preparing to send exemption notices to eligible senior taxpayers.
"This time of year, we're getting ready to send out exemption notices to our seniors and, we're finishing up the board review. That should be done this week, and, we'll send those decision notices out from the board review, hearings," Jones said. He added the board review includes hearings with the property tax board in Springfield scheduled for January and February.
Jones said the office will begin processing returned exemption forms and move the 2024 tax cycle forward into 2025 once hearings and board reviews are complete. When asked if the office was on schedule, Jones said they were "a little bit ahead of where we were last year." No changes to exemption rules or valuation methodology were announced at the meeting.
The committee moved on to subsequent agenda items after hearing the assessments update.
