Committee members said the system replaces a paper-based process in which inspection firms printed and mailed deficiency notices. Under the agreement, licensed inspection firms will submit reports electronically into the LIV system; the city will receive notifications when a deficiency is reported so inspectors can be dispatched more quickly to address hazards.
The committee heard that the change will not increase fees charged to businesses; firms told staff the reporting fee (roughly $15 per report) is built into their inspection charges and replaces the printers-and‑mailing cost. The city’s fire official reviewed the system and approved the version presented to the committee, staff said.
Committee members cited faster, more real‑time notification and improved documentation as the primary benefits, especially for high‑hazard properties the city targets for enforcement. The motion to approve was offered by Councilor Robertson and seconded by Councilor Pardon; the vote passed unanimously, 5‑0.
