Commissioners table 9-1-1 center chair lease after contract concerns

Delaware County commissioners on Jan. 6 tabled consideration of a three-year chair lease for the county 9-1-1 center and asked staff and the county attorney to seek contract language that would allow annual termination or otherwise provide flexibility.
9-1-1 Director Fred Cummings described the proposed lease: roughly 10 chairs for three years at a contract total the director referenced near $22,500 (about $7,211 annually as presented). He said the vendor operates a nationwide program that exchanges and maintains chairs annually.
Commissioners questioned whether a Delaware County vendor could provide comparable service and whether the lease could include an annual opt-out if a local supplier later offered an acceptable alternative. County counsel was asked to review severability and termination language; the board directed staff to return with suggested contract language and a copy of the lease for review. The motion to table carried on a recorded roll call vote.
Cummings said that without an approved lease the current chairs will be removed in February and that failing to act would require the county to spend more than $20,000 to purchase replacement chairs outright.
