Commission approves $31,000 in event funding for local cultural festivals and film series

Staff presented four event funding applications on Oct. 21 and recommended awards totaling $31,000 under existing event funding programs and venue-fee support.

The commission approved the staff recommendations by motion. The funded items in the staff packet and motion included an event venue fee waiver of $5,699.50, $12,500 for a Jewish Film Festival, $10,000 for the Thunderbird Art Festival and $8,500 for Arizona Conquers Delegance (staff contact: Rachel Smetana). Staff said application materials were provided to commissioners in advance for review.

Commissioner Kisselberg moved to approve the combined funding of $31,000; Commissioner Miller seconded.
