Cumberland County Schools announces $25,000 grant and FAFSA outreach after federal application changes

A school staff member with Cumberland County Schools told parents on Oct. 12 that changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, and a new local grant will prompt a series of outreach events to help students and families complete applications.
The staff member said the district was awarded $25,000 from the John M. Belk Foundation to support “FAFSA application initiatives,” and that the district plans about five or six FAFSA application nights in partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College (Fayetteville Tech) and Fayetteville State University. A Fayetteville Tech bus is scheduled to visit high school locations during February to provide on-site assistance, the staff member said.
