Nathan Mather was elected chair of the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors and Danny Chick was elected vice chair during the board’s Jan. 2, 2025, meeting. The board then approved a package of six resolutions delegating routine authorities to county officials, accepted December payroll claims and voted to keep the board’s 2025 meeting schedule on Monday mornings at 9 a.m.
The actions matter because they set who leads the board for the year and delegate several operational authorities to county staff, including emergency road closures and administration of disaster relief receipts. The approvals also set administrative matters — including official county newspapers — and confirm the board’s regular meeting cadence for the year.
In nominations recorded at the meeting, one board member moved to nominate Nathan Mather for chair and Danny Chick for vice chair; another member seconded the nomination and the board voted in favor. The board then considered a set of six resolutions (listed below). Each resolution was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call vote. The meeting record shows unanimous “ayes” on each resolution.

After the resolutions, the board approved the minutes of the Dec. 30, 2024 regular meeting and accepted the county’s December 2024 payroll claims by voice vote. The board also reviewed a list of board and liaison appointments that will be acted on at a future meeting and kept the board’s meeting schedule at 9 a.m. on Mondays for 2025 after a motion and second.
During the administrative reports portion of the meeting supervisors described two separate resident complaints about localized road conditions and said they would follow up with the county engineer. The board also noted committee scheduling conflicts for the chair and vice chair that will be resolved in an upcoming meeting.
