Jackson County schedules canvass for governor-called special election Jan. 30

County staff told the board polls for the special election will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The auditor said Iowa code requires the canvass of a governor‑called special election on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025.
Because two supervisors expect to be in Des Moines on the 30th, the auditor said she would contact the Secretary of State’s office to determine whether the county can complete canvass duties remotely or by phone and would deliver paperwork in person if required. The board set the canvass time at 1 p.m. and listed the location as “to be determined” in Des Moines.
A motion to set the canvass for Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. with location to be determined passed by voice vote.
