Commissioners spent the bulk of the session on administrative and outreach matters. Staff and members reported website updates, including addition of photos and a page listing past members. One member was assigned to compile a list of local venues and photographers to support same-sex and affirming wedding connections; the commission agreed to share that resource once compiled. Members also discussed targeted recruitment efforts, aiming to ask two to three potential new applicants, and to reach out to the Leadership Jefferson County cohort as a recruitment audience.
Other items on the agenda included a follow-up on a wetlands concern: a commissioner reported having contacted Dr. Turner, who is traveling and will respond when available. The commission discussed scheduling a site visit to a program referenced as “OVO” and indicated early February as a possible time. Commissioners flagged upcoming community events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month and agreed to remain engaged with planning efforts.
The commission noted an external virtual meeting of the National Fitness Council leadership on Jan. 17 at 2 p.m., which staff said they would circulate. A member representing or speaking about the town of Hanover offered to share meeting dates as a potential partner for a fitness-board venue; commissioners said they would follow up. One member mentioned recent grant funding related to parks but did not provide details at the meeting.
Finally, the commission set future regular meeting dates for Jan. 30, Feb. 27 and March 27, 2025.
The meeting adjourned after roughly 14 minutes of discussion; members said they would reconvene at the next scheduled session to follow up on the outstanding action items.
