Committee sends proposal to name Central High School court after Travis Best to building and maintenance subcommittee

The Springfield School Committee voted to send a proposal to dedicate Central High School’s basketball court in honor of alumnus Travis Best to the building and maintenance subcommittee.

Mayor Sarno introduced the community request, praising Best’s collegiate and professional career and his ongoing local youth work. Committee member Mister Collins made the motion to refer the naming request to the building and maintenance subcommittee; the motion was seconded and passed by roll-call vote of members present.

Committee members said the item must follow the district’s established subcommittee review process; if building and maintenance approves it, the full committee will take a subsequent vote and, if approved, the district would schedule an unveiling or dedication event. No formal naming vote or date was decided at the meeting.
