School committee appoints Trini Vargas as executive assistant

The Springfield School Committee voted unanimously to appoint Trini Vargas as executive assistant to the school committee.

The committee made the appointment during its opening business after Superintendent Dr. Denault introduced Vargas and said the committee had “stacked credential against credential” in its selection. Mayor Sarno and members then moved and seconded the appointment, and the clerk called a roll call vote. All members present voted yes.

The decision follows a temporary period in which Mrs. Montemayor covered the duties; the committee publicly thanked Montemayor for her interim service. No salary or contract details for Vargas were discussed at the meeting.
