Votes at a glance: council approves interim appointments, budget amendment and consent items

The Town of Hollywood Park City Council on Oct. 8 approved four formal items: a consent agenda that included minutes, financial statements and Economic Development Corporation board appointments; the appointment of Eric Burnside as interim (acting) fire chief; the appointment of Jeannette Huggins as interim city secretary; and an ordinance amending the fiscal year 2023–24 budget.

Council approved the consent agenda, which contained: (1) minutes for the Sept. 9 and Sept. 17 council meetings and the Oct. 2 special meeting; (2) acceptance of financial statements as of Aug. 31, 2024; and (3) appointment of three individuals to the Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. A council member moved approval and the motion was seconded; the mayor called for the vote and the ayes carried the motion.

The council then voted to appoint firefighter engineer paramedic Eric Burnside as acting (interim) fire chief. Mayor Drash said staffing the emergency management coordinator position made filling the interim chief role urgent; a council member moved to appoint Burnside and the motion carried with the ayes having it.

The council also voted to appoint Jeannette Huggins as interim city secretary. A council member moved and another seconded; the council approved the appointment by voice vote.

Finally, the council approved an ordinance amending the town's fiscal year 2023'24 budget. Treasurer Fred presented proposed line-item adjustments to align the adopted budget with actuals through Sept. 30 and said the changes would move any year-end excess into reserves pending the auditor's report. A motion to adopt the ordinance carried by voice vote.

No roll-call tallies with member-by-member votes were recorded on the transcript beyond unanimous voice approval for the motions listed above.
