Trustees plan closer work with foundation, set Jan. 18 retreat; schools add bilingual books

Trustee Annie Oplagia and Library Director Jennifer said the board should invite foundation representatives to participate in a planning meeting or an annual joint meeting to coordinate fundraising and strategic priorities. The board directed staff to draft language describing a cooperative relationship and to consult with foundation leadership before bringing final wording back to the trustees.
Separately, the board received an update on bilingual collections in district elementary school libraries. Michelle Eichman read a report noting that Denise Ryan, an English‑learner teacher in the district, collaborated with school librarian Jill and staff to compile and order bilingual titles that reflect the languages currently spoken by students; the first books are now in elementary school libraries. The board was reminded that district students may also check out materials from the Franklin Public Library with their school ID.
Trustees confirmed the board strategic planning retreat for Jan. 18, with an 8:30 a.m. start (9 a.m. program); members discussed breakfast arrangements and the agenda. The board asked staff to solicit items for the retreat agenda in advance.
