Board reviews relocated programs, summer calendar and subcommittee updates

Staff updated the Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board on program relocations and the upcoming summer calendar while the Branch Connection remains under renovation.

Since May 6, several programs have been held at alternate sites. Staff reported that many recurring classes and activities are now at First Baptist Church, with Zumba Gold relocated to the recreation center. Tai chi, power walking and other classes meet at the church on Wednesdays, per instructor scheduling. The board also moved several events—mixer nights and dances—to Venue 1842 for June through at least September, with staff planning to request additional dates if the venue continues to suit the programs.

Staff said the July calendar and a July–August newsletter would be distributed online and in print; the board was advised that the calendar and newsletter would be posted before the end of the day. Recurring weekday activities and special programs (book club, photo club, cooking club, Texas trivia, Friday at Frank’s, computer classes, quilting groups and evening fly-tying) were reviewed.

Subcommittee reports included a request to process a proclamation for a resident turning 100 years old. Mary (board member) said she had received family contact to arrange a celebration and staff said they would provide the proclamation form and coordinate with the family; the public proclamation might not occur on the actual birthday but would be coordinated with the family and city scheduling.

Board members also exchanged notes about community attendance at recent offsite events and encouraged members to attend the July venue events to show support.
