Senior advisory board approves furniture selections for Branch Connection renovation

The Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board approved a set of furniture selections for the Branch Connection renovation by voice vote during its June meeting, following discussion to resolve several tied preferences.

Board members and staff discussed color, function and features for multiple furniture categories, including ballroom chairs, lobby seating, occasional tables, lobby stools, arts-and-crafts tables and computer-room seating. After members who had not returned preference packets stated their choices, the board resolved ties and confirmed majority selections in most categories.

Jackie (staff member) said navy would be the ballroom chair color. Board members settled lobby seating in favor of the option labeled “option 1,” and chose stools and occasional tables after breaking ties by recording additional preferences. On arts-and-crafts room tables, the board recorded a 3–1 preference for option 1. Members discussed technical features—several members and staff noted concerns about table stability for sewing machines and whether chairs should have rollers or glides.

For some items, members asked staff clarifying questions about features such as adjustable-height tables, heavy-duty stability for craft use, and whether rollers could be added to chairs. Kelly (staff member) and others confirmed that rollers or glides could be added to either chair option, and discussed mesh backs versus solid backs for ergonomic preference.

After the group review, Jackie asked for a motion to approve the selections. A motion was made and seconded; the board approved the selections by voice vote. Jackie said staff would forward the selections to the furniture coordinator (Sarah) to compile a final workbook for procurement and review.

The board also asked staff to document any remaining open items and to produce a compiled selection workbook for final review by the renovation/furniture contact prior to ordering.
