Renovation phase 2 headed to Farmers Branch City Council in August; centenarian to be honored Aug. 6

City staff told the Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board on July 11 that the contract award for phase 2 of the Branch Connection renovation is scheduled for City Council consideration in early August, and the board discussed upcoming site walkthroughs with council and city management.

Staff said phase 1 is on track and that city staff are planning a walkthrough on July 17 with senior advisory board members, the city manager and City Council staff to review progress. For phase 2, staff said they expected to present the contract for council approval at the council’s August meeting (the board referenced August 6 as a likely date) and that no changes were being made to the scope of phase 2 upgrades despite differences between bond estimates and bid prices; additional funding sources were added to cover cost increases.

Why it matters: council approval of a construction contract is required before work on phase 2 can begin. Board members asked about specific design details such as fixture heights in family restrooms; staff said they would confirm those elements with the contractor scope.

Proclamation for centenarian: the board was also briefed that Adris Hanigan will be recognized with a City Council proclamation on Aug. 6 at the council meeting for turning 100 years old. Board members said Jim Hanigan, her son, has been coordinating the recognition and that staff were confirming logistics and council scheduling.

Next steps: staff to confirm the contract agenda placement for council, clarify family-bathroom fixture specifications, and finalize logistics for the Aug. 6 proclamation; board members were invited to attend the July 17 walkthrough.
