Committee member joins Planning & Zoning tree-preservation subcommittee; committee urged to review landscaping draft

During the Dec. 13 meeting a committee member reported she joined the Planning & Zoning tree-preservation subcommittee and asked fellow sustainability committee members to review the subcommittee’s landscaping-code draft before it goes to council.

The committee member said the subcommittee is finishing a draft and expects to send it to City Council in January; she asked colleagues to review the Planning & Zoning presentation and provide notes and questions within a tight window over the holidays. “This is kind of our last time to get in,” she said, urging members to submit feedback from the sustainability committee so it can be relayed at upcoming subcommittee meetings.

Members discussed that the Planning & Zoning subcommittee appears to be asking detailed technical questions about permitted plant types and other specifics, and that the draft contains planning- and zoning-specific details not previously included in the committee’s presentation packet. A staff suggestion was to review the prior meeting slideshow where the item was presented and send a consolidated list of comments for the committee member to deliver at the subcommittee meeting.

The committee did not vote on the draft; members agreed to review the materials and forward comments to the member serving on the subcommittee.
