Farmers Branch redistricting commission sticks with original Map 7 after hours of review of Maps 8 and 9

The Farmers Branch Redistricting Commission voted on Nov. 9 to reaffirm its prior recommendation of redistricting Map 7 to City Council after reviewing newly proposed Maps 8 and 9 and hearing legal guidance about Voting Rights Act considerations.

The commission spent the evening applying a formal scorecard — drawn from Article 7, Section 7.10(c) of the city charter and Resolution 2021-166 — to Maps 8 and 9, heard an attorney’s explanation of federal voting-rights standards and Spanish‑surname registered‑voter (SSRV) metrics, and took public comment. After discussion and an initial informal tally comparing Maps 8 and 9, the commission held a formal recommendation vote and a majority supported recommending Map 7 to the City Council rather than switching the commission’s primary recommendation to Map 8.
