Springfield City Commission approves series of contracts, grants, appointments and budget moves

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield City Commission on Dec. 31, 2024 approved a package of routine contracts, grant applications, appointments and budget transfers, voting unanimously on each item after brief staff explanations.

City staff told commissioners that several purchases support the water and wastewater system and airport operations. The commission authorized a purchase agreement for sodium hypochlorite for the wastewater treatment plant not to exceed $205,200; a purchase order for six sludge-to-waste pumps and four sludge-circulating pumps not to exceed $209,500; and a contract to buy 60% liquid ferric sulfate for $167,850. Staff said the sodium hypochlorite price had fallen from $1.97 to $1.71 per gallon from the prior year but remained above pre‑pandemic levels.

The commission confirmed an amendment to a state water and wastewater infrastructure grant to extend the grant period to June 30, 2025, and approved change order No. 2 on the airport runway visual guidance system contract, which decreased the contract by $209,113.74 (bringing the total to $362,918) and extended the project completion date noted in the document.
