EAC approves letter urging CPUC to establish affordable connectivity program

The Interagency Transportation Equity Advisory Committee voted Dec. 4 to approve a two-page letter from its Housing, Infrastructure and Broadband Subcommittee urging the California Public Utilities Commission to establish an affordable connectivity program.
Subcommittee chair Cheryl Villegas Walker summarized the Nov. 19 subcommittee meeting and introduced the draft letter (attachment B). Member Anna Gonzales moved to approve the letter and Vice Chair Armis Kelly seconded the motion. Member Connie Stewart, who the subcommittee identified as a principal drafter, noted the CC list needs updating and asked that staff be allowed to modify the list before distribution.
Clerk Hall called the roll for the motion; multiple members voiced their approval during the roll call and the chair declared the motion passed. The committee requested that staff explore producing a brief two-page information sheet describing the EAC and that staff look into issuing a media/notification package when the letter is sent.
The approved letter will be finalized with an updated list of copied recipients before formal transmission to the CPUC. Committee members also asked staff to circulate an accessible PDF two-pager and other outreach materials so members can share them with local officials and networks.
