The Pelham City Schools Board on Dec. 30 approved several routine personnel and program items during a special-called meeting, including a bus driver resignation and appointment, additions to a science textbook review subcommittee, and an out-of-state athletic trip for Pelham High School.
Board members voted to accept the resignation of a bus driver who is moving away and to approve the appointment of a replacement driver. The board recorded the personnel items as approved by voice vote; no individual names for the departing or replacement driver were stated in the meeting record.
The board also approved a recommendation to add four people—Justin Foster, John Gotham, Jeff Hatfield and Michelle LaSueur—to the Pelham City Schools science textbook subcommittee. The subcommittee will review career-technical education (CTE) science materials as part of the district’s textbook review process, which panel members said follows the state’s seven-year rotation for textbooks.
Separately, the board approved an out-of-state field trip for the Pelham High School boys basketball team to the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee on Jan. 2, 2025. The trip was presented as an opportunity for students to see alumni playing for the opposing team; the board granted approval by voice vote.
Board members also announced upcoming meetings: a regular board meeting set for Jan. 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Palm Park Middle School, and a work session planned for Jan. 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The board said it intends to hold work sessions roughly two weeks before regular meetings to allow additional time for agenda review.
The meeting record shows routine motions to approve the agenda and to adjourn were also passed by voice vote. There was no extended debate on the approved items during the session.
