Representatives of two community partners gave brief presentations to the board about services and recognition that support early childhood and college access.
Amelia Ponzi, executive director of Wildflower Play Collective, described the nonprofit as an indoor playground and family resource center that rents space from the district near the fairgrounds and Bachelor's Flat School Building. Ponzi said Wildflower Play Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entering its fourth year, serves roughly 130 families, and runs a sliding-scale membership model with some free memberships funded by grants. She cited grants and partners including Columbia Pacific CCO, Board Family Foundation, the Oregon Community Foundation and Children's Trust, and said the organization partners with Northwest Regional ESD, parks and rec and DHS to provide parent education, postpartum support groups and free memberships to foster families.
Adrienne Enriquez, director for Oregon GEAR UP, presented a College Access Champion banner award recognizing Saint Helens High School for strong participation in college-access activities. Enriquez said the award honors schools that show high percentages of twelfth-grade participation in activities such as college-application week, FAFSA/ORSAA completion and decision-day events. She presented a banner the school can hang that recognizes the work of staff, including Nicole (a local staff member referenced in the presentation), and said Saint Helens was among the seven schools honored statewide this year.
Board members thanked presenters and encouraged further collaboration between the district and community partners. No formal board action was taken on either item; both presentations were informational.
