Hinsdale Planning Commission approves three downtown sign permits

The Hinsdale Planning Commission on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, approved three sign-permit applications for downtown properties, voting unanimously on each item after brief staff and applicant remarks.
The approvals covered: an awning relocation for Hinsdale Prime Estate at 38 S. Garfield Ave. and 42 E. Hinsdale Ave. (case A-40-2025); two awning signs for businesses at 50 S. Washington St., listed as Giovanni’s and Mae Deloren (cases A-46-2025 and A-47-2025); and replacement sign faces for the Old Second bank location at 1 Grama Square (case A-43-2025).
Commissioners said the applications were straightforward and asked few questions before moving to votes. For A-40-2025, staff described the request as relocating an existing awning sign from the Garfield side to newly expanded tenant space so the business would continue to have the same number of awnings; no applicant representative was present. The commission approved the case on a motion by Commissioner Willoughby, seconded by Commissioner Jablonski. The roll call recorded Commissioners Jablonski, Cernovich, Willoughby, Fiosconi and Chairman Cashman as voting aye.
At 50 S. Washington St., applicants seeking two awning signs identified themselves; Inganer Butas (recorded as representing “EPD lorem”) confirmed the request was to add names on awnings. Commissioners asked whether window signage had been approved previously and received confirmation that window signage had been approved in August. Commissioners Jablonski and Cernovich moved and seconded approval of cases A-46-2025 and A-47-2025; the roll call shows Jablonski, Cernovich, Willoughby, Thea Stoney (recorded in the roll call) and Chairman Cashman voting aye on those items.
For the Old Second bank at 1 Grama Square (A-43-2025), representatives from Olympic Sign Company (Robbie) and Altecon (Carlos Arroyo) said the request was limited to changing sign faces on existing wall, monument and ATM-hut signs; no new structures were proposed. Robbie told the commission that the acquisition by Old Second from Evergreen Bank Group had legally closed on July 1 and that, following a systems conversion, the branch would open under the Old Second name beginning Monday, Oct. 20. She also said the existing illuminated signs would remain lit and the project involved only new inserts. Commissioner Willoughby moved approval; Commissioner Blonsky seconded. The roll call recorded Commissioners Blonsky, Cernovich, Willoughby, Cascone and Chairman Cashman as voting aye.
The meeting included a partial roll call at the start showing several commissioners absent: Commissioner Harlow, Commissioner Curry, Commissioner Krillenberger and Commissioner Moore were not present at the roll call. Earlier minutes from the Aug. 13, 2025 meeting were discussed; because of multiple abstentions the commission opted to continue action on those minutes to the Nov. 13 meeting.
The commission adjourned after the sign-permit reviews. The next regular meeting was announced for Nov. 13, 2025.
