The Santa Ana City Council on Wednesday approved a sponsorship agreement with The Frida Cinema to support the monthly Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk, an event that brings local artists, vendors and patrons to the downtown.
Art Walk organizers and Frida Cinema leadership addressed the council in support of the item, describing the event as an economic and cultural driver that provides vendor space to more than 50 local artists and draws thousands of attendees. “With the city’s support over the last year, we have been able to take Art Walk to the next level in collaboration with our vibrant community,” Art Walk coordinator Wendy Youngs said.
Council members thanked organizers and emphasized the city’s role as sponsor. Council member Fan asked that city branding be included in promotional material; the city manager confirmed the city logo will be used on sponsored promotions.
The motion to approve the sponsorship was made by Mayor Meskwah and seconded by Council member Hernandez; the council approved the agreement by a 6–0 roll-call vote (one absence recorded). The action was described as part of ongoing efforts to activate downtown, support small businesses and broaden cultural programming.
Council members encouraged continued partnership with the school district and local nonprofits to expand family-friendly programming downtown. No financial appropriation details were discussed during the public vote; staff will execute the sponsorship agreement under the terms presented in the meeting packet.
