Santa Ana council hears surge in requests for immigrant emergency aid; city looks to reallocate salary savings

City staff reported that the program has assisted 101 households (198 individuals): 81 households received utility assistance only, five received rental assistance only and 15 received both rent and utility support. Council members and public speakers said demand rose after ICE activity in Santa Ana and urged the city to expand the fund immediately.
