The Douglas County School District 4 Board of Directors adopted a resolution designating American Education Week and approved two district policies — local wellness (EFA) and personal electronic devices (JFCEB) — during a brief regular board meeting that followed a work session.
Director Kubik read Resolution 25‑26‑9, which proclaims November 17 through November 20, 2025, as the 104th annual observance of American Education Week and recognizes the work of school employees. The board adopted the resolution by unanimous voice vote.
The board approved Policy EFA (local wellness) on second reading and adoption. According to administration materials and the policy committee, the adopted policy allows families to bring snacks for classroom celebrations; the policy came to the full board after review at the policy committee and a first reading during the Oct. 8 meeting.
The board also approved Policy JFCEB (personal electronic devices) on second reading and adoption. Administration noted the policy was revised to align with the governor’s executive order and with drafts from the Oregon School Boards Association; Director Hamerson was credited for helping craft the district’s version. The district will post the policy and begin transition steps immediately; the policy’s effective date in the text is Jan. 1, 2026, to align with the executive order timeline.
Director Kubik read a portion of the resolution during presentation: “public schools are the backbone of our democracy, providing young people with the tools they need to maintain our nation’s precious values of freedom, civility, and equity.”
Board members expressed support for the wellness and device policies and discussed implementation. Administration said it would begin transition steps for the device policy after the vote and that the policy includes provisions for parental involvement in special circumstances and for parent involvement in incidents of noncompliance.
All motions called during the meeting carried unanimously according to the transcript.
