City staff gave brief operational updates at the Oct. 22 meeting:
Parks and Recreation (Crystal Burrell) announced a series of fall and holiday events: a Trunk‑or‑Treat on Oct. 31 (5–8 p.m. at City Hall parking lot), a Veterans Day luncheon on Nov. 10 (Community Room), a Thanksgiving Give Back on Nov. 17 (3–7 p.m.) that aims to serve more than 1,000 families using a combination of cold grab‑and‑go pick-up, hot meals in the community room and mobile drop‑offs, and ongoing Toys for Tots registration through Nov. 1 for children 13 and under. Burrell provided contact information for volunteers and donations and asked residents to sign up at City Hall or via the city website/app.
Community and Economic Development Director Nona Watson introduced Sakara Pearson as the new director of Licensing and Inspections, noting that Pearson was promoted from within the department. Pearson spoke briefly and said she is committed to improving licensing and inspection services and the health and safety of the community. Council and the mayor thanked her for stepping into the role and noted her early efforts, including working on a Saturday.
Staff asked residents to note additional community events (a free haunted house at Hunt Haven on Halloween, and other holiday programming) and expressed appreciation for volunteers and partnering organizations.
