The Green Bay Landmarks Commission on Oct. 15 approved a retroactive certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of a one-story garage at 814–816 South Quincy but noted the structure had already been demolished without securing a COA, a possible violation of the municipal ordinance.
Staff presented the application and photographs; the garage appears to be non-original but possibly early 20th century in age. “The COA application is fairly straightforward,” staff said, while also noting there was no evidence the garage was original to the property. During the meeting a staff member confirmed the garage had been removed and that the demolition occurred without prior commission approval. One commissioner observed the demolition may have been done by the owner or removed by storm damage; staff said the commission’s role includes understanding the circumstances and that the applicant was not present to explain.
Commissioners then moved to approve the retroactive COA. A motion and second were recorded and the commission voted in favor. Meeting discussion flagged the ordinance violation but did not announce additional enforcement or penalties. Staff described the action as somewhat educational — an opportunity to inform property owners about COA requirements when demolition or exterior work occurs.
