Resolutions included recognitions of school leaders and teachers — among them Stephen Phillips, assistant principal at Holly Hill Elementary School (Enterprise); Elizabeth Antwine, assistant principal at Auburn High School; Jennifer Neighbors, assistant principal at Calera Middle School; Dr. Matthew Elps, principal at Career Technical High School; Anthony Sanders, principal at Greensboro Middle School; Dr. Stan Stokley, principal at Sierra Leone Elementary School; Melinda Nichols, Oak Mountain Middle School history teacher of the year; Veronica Pitts, Selma High School (National Civics Teacher of the Year); and Suzanne Estes (Barbara Fennig Memorial employee of the quarter).
The board also adopted proclamations recognizing October as Principals Month, Dyslexia Awareness Month, Manufacturing Month, Statewide Parent Engagement Month, Alabama College Appreciation Campaign Week, and Alabama School Bus Safety Week.
All listed resolutions and proclamations were moved, seconded and passed unanimously by raised-hand vote. Most of the items were presented as ceremonial recognitions and required no debate; the meeting had no public speakers registered on the agenda for these items.
Votes and adopted resolutions were procedural and celebratory in nature; the board asked honorees and education staff to remain for photographs after the meeting.
