City engineer briefs council on parking-lot work, SR-37 design timeline and park plans

City engineering support reported progress on the Columbus Street parking-lot grading, East Granville Street widening design contract (American StructurePoint), JR Smith Park 90% plans, Sixth Street and Vernon Street design starts, and Delta/Delco Water main-line projects.
Miss Odabrowski, the engineer supporting Sunbury, told the council on Oct. 15 that the Columbus Street municipal parking lot grading is complete and a 1.5-foot base with pavers is scheduled so drainage improvements can be installed; the parking surface is expected to form by the Thanksgiving period.
Odabrowski confirmed the final design contract from American StructurePoint for the East Granville Street widening is in the council packet for third reading and that construction is not expected until 2027: design and bidding will take place well before that date. She also said the JR Smith Park project submitted 90% plans on Oct. 10 and staff is reviewing to coordinate bonding and construction timing.
The council was told that Advanced Civil Design Group will begin designs for Sixth Street improvements next year, including survey work on Vernon Street and the Cherry/Morning Street intersection. Delco Water has completed main-line installation on Evening Street and will return to finish restoration at the Granville intersection; Delco plans another replacement project on Cherry Street near North Miller Drive but has not yet provided a construction timeline.
No formal council action was taken on these project updates at the Oct. 15 meeting.
