Commissioners accept $64,669 courthouse security grant for camera upgrades

The Carroll County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 23 unanimously approved accepting a $64,669.01 grant from the Administrative Office of the Courts to enhance security at the county courthouse.

The grant, awarded to the Circuit Court, requires no county match and will be used to improve surveillance camera coverage inside the courthouse. A Circuit Court representative told commissioners the award would “help enhance security through, improved surveillance camera, coverage, in the courthouse.”

The board heard the request at the start of its open-session agenda and moved promptly to a vote. A commissioner moved that the board “approve the submission of the a y 20 25 courthouse security funding request of $64,669.01 and accept the award.” Another commissioner seconded; the board voted in favor with no recorded opposition.

Because the court declined to provide operational details that might compromise security, the commissioners did not discuss specific camera locations or installation contractors during the public discussion. The Circuit Court representative said the request did not ask for county operating funds.

The approval adds the grant to the county’s list of awarded external funds and directs staff to complete any required acceptance paperwork and contracting steps so the work can proceed under the grant terms.

No timetable for procurement or installation was provided during the discussion, nor were implementation vendors or contractors named.

The county clerk’s office will add the grant award to the county’s financial records and notify the Administrative Office of the Courts of the board’s acceptance.
